OET

What is OET?

OET is an international English language test designed specifically for healthcare professionals. Instead of general topics, it assesses the language you actually use at work — talking to patients, reading clinical documents and writing referral letters.

It's recognised by healthcare regulators, councils and employers in countries including the UK, Ireland, Australia and New Zealand, making it one of the most practical routes for doctors, nurses and other healthcare workers planning to practise abroad.

The four sub-tests

Listening and Reading are the same for every profession; Writing and Speaking are tailored to yours.

Listening

Patient consultations and healthcare workplace talks. Practise note-taking and catching key clinical detail.

Reading

Short workplace texts and longer healthcare articles. Build speed and accuracy under time pressure.

Writing

A profession-specific letter — usually a referral, transfer or discharge letter. Learn the structure, tone and criteria examiners look for.

Speaking

Two role-plays with an interlocutor playing a patient or carer. Develop clear, empathetic and professional communication.

OET questions

Which OET grade do I need?

It depends on where you're applying. Many regulators ask for grade B in each sub-test, and some — such as the UK's NMC for nurses — accept C+ in Writing. Requirements change, so always confirm the latest with your regulator; we'll plan your preparation around it.

Can I prepare online?

Yes. We run OET groups both online and in class at our Giza branch on El Bahr El Azam, so you can study wherever you are.

How long does preparation take?

It depends on your starting level and target grade. After your free level test, we'll recommend a realistic plan and timeline.

Do you offer mock tests?

Yes — full mock tests under exam conditions with feedback, so you know exactly where you stand before exam day.
